about genesis |
We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging
to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong,
we may begin to use it with love and respect.
-Aldo Leopold
Genesis
Land Conservancy is a registered charity dedicated to preserving land
for agricultural use, where sustainable agricultural practices and stewardship
are key principles. In our present day, farming as an occupation is often
pushed to the back burner and not given sufficient thought. Genesis works
to preserve land from over-development and soil degradation so it can
continue to be used for productive agricultural purposes. Preserving our
farms, will guarantee fertile soil and healthy crops for generations to
come.
A land trust is an alternative ownership model that removes land from the commodity market and uses it as a long-term resource. Genesis assists farmers in the transfer of land to the land trust in order to make land available to farm operators under lease. Working with land in trust fosters a new generation in sustainable farming. Learn more about land trusts in Farmland Preservation. To see the effects, please read Land Trusts at Work.
Genesis Land Conservancy currently manages over 3000 acres of land throughout Saskatchewan. See the map locations where Genesis holds Land in Trust. It also assists in the development of The Learning Centre and promotes sustainable agriculture and earth stewardship.
